Alec Bamford (MC)'s Biography. Alec was born on 9th April 1895 in Shanghai, China, where his father was a Christian Missionary. Educated in England, became Assistant Astronomer to the Ceylon Government at Columbo University and served in the Ceylon Planter Rifles before the from 1910. During the Great War he joined the Motor Machine Gun Service in August 1915 and served in the African campaign.
