The 110th Anniversary of the Hertfordshire Regiment's 'Blackest Day’
Tour from 30th July to 1st August 2027
The Herts Regiment’s blackest day, ‘St Julien’ - 31/7/1917 - when every Officer and 75% the of Other Ranks were killed, wounded or captured.
This is a unique trip, primarily to visit the Hertfordshires’ St Julien battlefield, where they fought as part of Third Ypres, to understand the events as they affected the Hertfordshire Regiment and to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the terrible Hertfordshire losses on the 31st of July 1917. The weekend will include other associated sites, stories and excursions.
Headline details:
- Fri 30th July to Sun 1st August 2027.
- Free parking at Panshanger Golf Club, Welwyn Garden City.
- A two-night, three-day coach tour, staying in Ypres.
- Fully guided - with three guides - we will walk the battlefield, explain the battle and follow the Hertfordshires’ progress.
- We will visit the Herts At War memorial for a short ceremony to commemorate the Hertfordshire Regiment.
- We will visit other relevant sites and less visited cemeteries relating to the Hertfordshires and that day.
- Travel by luxury coach.
- Accommodation 3-star superior rating.
Cost Undiscounted: Please note that we are endeavouring to keep the price reasonable and yet absorb any unforeseen price increases - in the current climate ferry, coach and fuel costs are very volatile - so we have built in some contingency, however if the costs are less than we have assumed, and we substantially fill the coach, we may be able apply a further discount.
- £560 per person sharing twin/double room,
- £660 per person in a single room.
DISCOUNTS: NOTE the costs given above are the maximum, they will be discounted:
- by £25 person for all when we achieve 40 travellers.
- For HAW members(*1): Deduct £10 (single member or joint member travelling alone) or £7.50 (each joint member - both travelling) To join visit Membership.
