Our Aims
To Commemorate – Beyond the centenary of the First World War the project aims to commemorate the sacrifices and bravery of those on the front-line and at home in Hertfordshire. The website will act as a virtual record of the county’s story to be maintained for posterity.
To Educate - As the original team was made up largely of heritage workers, professional historians and teachers the founding principle of the project was always to uncover and tell Hertfordshire’s forgotten story.
The website, pop-up exhibitions and bespoke battlefield trips aim to give the public new insight into the county’s history. Herts at War can also run workshops with local schools and provide teaching resources which will be freely available for download from the website.
To Interact - Our aim is not simply to record history and impart knowledge, but to involve the countywide community in the project. We want the county’s input in providing new stories and driving the direction of our research.
We also want your involvement in our pop-exhibitions, research, writing articles, providing information or collections and photographs for us to copy and display and at our live events.
