Day One: Friday 21st August
Picking up in Hertfordshire, we will travel to Cambrai via Folkestone to Calais Tunnel. En-route to the Hotel we visit the 1915 front focussing on Neuve Chapelle and the Battle of Loos. We will study the actions of Ted Warner VC from Tring and local man Fergus Bowes Lyon. Overnight in Cambrai.
Day Two: Saturday 22nd August
A morning study following the stories of local Hertfordshire men on the Somme, with visits to La Boiselle and a walk through the Ancre Valley. In the afternoon we will focus on the battlefields around Arras including the stories of Hitchin's Lt Col Meredith Magniac and Letchworth man, Valentine Flanders. Overnight in Cambrai.
Day Three: Sunday 23rd August
Today we will study the ‘Advance to Victory’ and the role of Hertfordshire men in 1918 before a late afternoon crossing to the UK.
