*1 Currently we have insufficient information to positively identify this soldier. The St Albans Cathedral Diocese records give his name as 'W C Jeffreys', however they suggest a connection to Hertford and that he was a Private in the Somerset Light Infantry. However, there is a 'W O Jeffreys' who was also a Private in the Somerset Light Infantry and it seems likely that this is the mean intended to be commemorated in the Diocese records - see W O Jeffries for more information.
