George was a serving soldier when the war was declared having enlisted on 28th October 1907.
Wartime Service
His service record exists and he was discharged from the army on the 21st February 1916 as "physically unfit for further war service" due to tuberculosis of the lungs. He received the Silver War Badge number 96403. His service records suggest that his illness was not the result of ware service but aggravated by it.
