Hitchin Town Memorial, St John’s Church, Memorial(*2)

*1 A 'P W West' appears on the Hitchin Town Memorial, however David C Baines extensive work in the late 1990s and early 2000s did not identify a man with this name, nor does looking at CWGC records today reveal an obvious candidate. Alongside P W West on the memorial is an R W West who has been positively identified.
*2 We are also informed that a memorial in St John’s Church in Hitchin, bears the name P W West however at present we do not have any information of photographs to confirm this.
At present it would seem, from the limited information available, it would seem most likely that the ‘P W West’ entry on the Hitchin Town Memorials is an error and a possible duplication of ‘R W West’. We would welcome any information that would help.
