Biography

Before joining the R.A.F. he was employed at the Morse Chain Company in Letchworth and joined the R.A.F. in 1940. He was posted to 61 Squadron and given Service Number 1178553. At the time of his death 61 Squadron was based at Skellingthorpe southwest of Lincoln. 


On the 20th November 1943 whilst cycling to work at an aerodrome he skidded and fell, sustaining serious head injuries. He died in an RAF. Hospital in Lincolnshire on the 2 1st November at 4.00pm. An inquest was held which gave the verdict of accidental death. 


He is buried in Hitchin Cemetery, Grave 182, Southeast Extension. 


He was the youngest of five brothers who all served in the forces. His brother George was a P.O.W. who was captured after the raid on St. Nazaire. He was the son of Mr and Mrs R. Salisbury of Hitchin.
