Hugh McCorquodale was born on 1 April 1898. He was the son of Harold McCorquodale and Grace Granville. He married Mary Barbara Hamilton Cartland, daughter of Major Bertram Cartland and Mary Hamilton Scobell, on 28 December 1936 at Guildhall, London, England. He died on 29 December 1963 at age 65.
Hugh McCorquodale was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England and then was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.
He was the husband of Barbara Cartland
Wartime Service
He gained the rank of officer in the service of the Cameron Highlanders.
He was decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.) Gazette Info: issue 30466. M.C. "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He led his platoon under heavy machine-gun fire with the greatest courage and coolness keeping them under control although it appeared at one moment doubtful whether the advance could be continued. It was largely due to his fine personal example and skilful handling of his company that the enemy's counter-attack was delayed. Awarded the Military Cross."
