George Marvell was born on the 3rd December 1896 in Graveley.

George married Winifred Lydia BALL on the 26th December 1925 at Little Wymondley, Hertfordshire. Their Banns had been read on the 29th November, 6th December and 13th December 1925. Records indicate that the couple had 3 children; Georgina E M Marvell - Born: 1930 - Hitchin (Married Harold K Littler in 1949), Sylvia A Marvell - Born: 1935 - Hatfield (Married Kenneth O Elliott in 1957) and Derrick G Marvell - Born: 1937 - Hatfield (Married Doreen R Harradence in 1959). By 1935, George and Winifred had moved to Hatfield, Hertfordshire, and were living at 191 Crawford Road. George worked as a Transport Driver for London & North East Railways operating a vehicle from Hatfield Station. Following the outbreak of WW2, George became a member of the Hertfordshire Home Guard, most likely serving with the 14th Battalion based at Hatfield. His photo, taken probably between 1944 & 1945, shows that he was a Sergeant in his Battalion, due to his experience and expertise gained in the Great War. * The photograph used here was taken of George Marvell in Cologne in 1919.
