According to the Grammar School Book of Remembrance, a Charles Frederick BOYLE was a senior Marconi Operator, R.N.V.R. He died 14 December 1918 of double pneumonia following malaria in Watford, and was entitled to the Victory, British War and Star medals.
There is an article about and a Death announcement for Charles in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 21 December 1918.
Son of Fred(erick) and Elizabeth Gwendoline (nee WATKINS) BOYLE.
His parents married 25 December 1894 at St Paul’s, West Hackney, London. Fred died 1 March 1933 in Watford aged 62, and was buried 6 March in Vicarage Road Cemetery; Elizabeth died 31 August 1964 in Watford aged 95, and was buried 3 September, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Charles was born 14 January 1899 in Watford, and baptised 13 July 1899 at St Paul’s, Langleybury, Herts. He attended Watford Grammar School from 9 September 1912 to March 1915. He was buried 18 December.
On the 1901 Census, he lived in Watford, with his parents and two siblings. On the 1911 Census, a scholar aged 12, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and two siblings.

*1 Recorded as born in Watford, but it is possible especially give that he was baptised in Langleybury, that Watford is the postal town for his actual birthplace. There is no trace of a C F BOYLE in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s dataset or in any R.N.V.R. records.
The published Watford Grammar School Book of Remembrance entry reads:
“BOYLE, CHARLES FREDERICK. School period: September, 1912, to March, 1915. Senior Marconi Operator, R.N.V.R. Died of double pneumonia following malaria, 14th December, 1918."
