Son of James and Harriet (nee TYLER) WRIGHT of Watford.
His parents married 20 April 1889 at St Matthew’s, Oxhey, Herts. James died 4 January 1946 in Watford aged 86, and was buried 9 January at St James’, Bushey, Herts; Harriet died 1949 in Watford aged 84, and was buried 11 November in North Watford Cemetery.
Sidney was born 30 March 1890 in Watford, and baptised 18 May 1890 at St Mary’s, Watford. He attended first Sotheron Road Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School, Watford, from 25 January 1897 to 16 March 1904.
On the 1891 Census, aged 1 he lived in Watford, with his parents and no siblings. On the 1901 Census, aged 11 he still lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings. On the 1911 Census, a labourer aged 21, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings.
Wartime Service
He attested 11 December 1915 for Short Service (For the Duration of the War, with the Colours and in the Army Reserve): a printer’s assistant aged 25 of Watford. He was mobilised 11 February 1916 at Bedford as Private 26195 Bedfordshire Regiment, and was posted to the 3rd Battalion 12 February 1916. He was transferred 26 June 1916 to the 9th Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, and transferred, again, 28 September 1916 to the 20th Battalion Manchester Regiment.
He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
