Pre War

Son of Emily Olive (nee ASHMAN) WEBB of Holcombe, Somerset, and the late Charles Frederick WEBB; husband of Emma Elizabeth (nee PALMER) WEBB of Watford.

His parents married 1876 in the Bath district.  Charles died 17 January 1915 in Midsomer Norton, Somerset, aged 73; Olive remarried 1919 in the Wells, Somerset, district to Wilfred R PARSONS.

Benjamin was born 1877 in Holcombe, and married 31 August 1907 at St Andrew’s, Watford; they had one child.  Emma remarried 1927 in the Watford district to James William PRICE; she died 1950 in Watford aged 71, and was buried 5 August in North Watford Cemetery.

On the 1881 Census, aged 4 he lived in Holcombe, with his parents and two siblings.  On the 1891 Census, he is proving elusive.  On the 1901 Census, a house painter aged 24, he lived in Great Stanmore, Middx,  On the 1911 Census, a painter aged 34, he lived in Watford, with his wife and one child.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford, and was formerly Private 53354 30th Labour Company, Royal West Surrey Regiment, before transferring to the Labour Corps; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died at No. 14 General Hospital.  

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Benjamin’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
