Son of Harry Sardine and Gustavia Louise/Louie Ameli (nee METGE) SHAW.
His parents married 1 November 1890 at St Thomas’, Agar Town, London. Harry died 1935 in Watford aged 68, and was buried 13 August in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Gustavia died 1950 in Watford aged 81, and was buried 21 November, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Norman was born 27 January 1892 in St Pancras, London, [not Watford], and attended Callowland Board School, Watford, from 26 June 1899 to 16 November 1900 and again from 18 February 1901 to 17 October 1902; then Bushey British School, Herts; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 18 June to 20 September 1903. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, a Private in the 3rd Battalion Royal Irish Regiment aged 19, he was stationed somewhere!
Wartime Service
He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 19 December 1914, and died at No 10 Stationary Hospital, St Omer, of wounds received in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Norman’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
There are articles about Norman in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 8 May 1915 and 22 May 1915.
