Son of William and Mary (nee EDWARDS or EDMUNDS) REDHEAD of Watford.
His parents married 25 December 1884 at St Barnabas’, Linslade, Bucks. William died 1944 aged 80; Mary died 1948 aged 84; both in the Leighton Buzzard, Beds, district.
William was born 6 October 1892 in Watford, and baptised 8 April 1896 at St Andrew’s, Watford. He attended first Callow Land Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School from 8 January 1900 to 11 October 1901; then Alexandra School, Watford, from 21 October 1901 to 26 March 1902 [sic]; back to Callowland Board School from 28 January 1902 [sic] to 5 October 1896. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Watford, with his parents and two siblings. On the 1911 Census, a factory hand aged 18, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and two siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 13 July 1915, and was killed in action at St Eloi.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, William’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. There is a Death announcement for William in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 11 September 1915. Has a entry in the National Roll of the Great War.
