Son of Frances (nee MORRIS) and the late Thomas PERKINS.
His parents married 4 June 1881 at Husborne Crawley, Beds. Thomas died 1900 in Watford aged 42, and was buried 20 December in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Frances died 1934 in Watford aged 74, and was buried 2 March in North Watford Cemetery.
Charles was born 27 May 1887 in Linslade, Bucks, and baptised 14 August 1887 at St Barnabas’, Linslade. He attended first Callow Land Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School from 22 January 1894 to 6 November 1899. He resided in Watford.
On the 1891 Census, a scholar aged 3 he lived in Linslade, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1901 Census, a chocolate sweet maker aged 13 he lived in Watford, with his widowed mother and six siblings. On the 1911 Census, a house painter aged 23, he still lived in Watford, with his widowed mother and six siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Aylesbury, Bucks; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
There is an article about Charles in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 22 July 1916.
His brother Henry died 12 December 1919 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.
