Pre War
Son of Ellen FORD (formerly PAGE, nee WINDMILL) and the late John PAGE.
His parents married 1882 in the Hendon, Middx, district. Ellen remarried 1899 in the Watford district to William Henry R FORD.
William was born 1889 in St Alban’s, Herts.
On the 1891 Census, aged 2 he lived in St Alban’s, with his mother, step-father and one sibling. On the 1901 Census, aged 12 he lived in Watford, with his mother, step-father and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, a labourer aged 22, he was a lodger in Fulham, London.
Wartime Service
He enlisted 12 August 1914 at Mill Hill, Middx, for Short Service (3 years with the Colours): a labourer aged 25, 5’5″ tall, C of E; his next-of-kin his mother of Watford.
He was accidentally shot in the buttocks by a comrade in the trenches 18 September 1916, was admitted to 37 Casualty Clearing Station on 19 September, and returned to England 29 September aboard S.S. St Denis, where he died at the Auxiliary Hospital, Kendal, of his wounds.
He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 31 May 1915.
