Son of Frances Elizabeth (nee LAYTON) and the late Francis Stephen MILLAR.
His parents married 1869 in the St Giles, London, district. Francis died in 1912 in Watford aged 75, and was buried 9 April in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Frances died 1921 in Watford aged 72, and was buried 21 November, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Hubert was born 4 September 1883 in Watford, and attended Callowland Board School, Watford, from 14 June 1897 to 14 January 1898. He resided in Watford.
He has an entry in the National Probate Calendar.
On the 1891 Census, aged 7 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1901 Census, a clerk at saw mills aged 17, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1911 Census, a commercial traveller aged 27, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and no siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Hertford; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 [sic] medals, his qualifying date being 5 November 1914 [sic]; and was killed in action at Gallipoli.
Additional Information
There are articles about Hubert in the Watford Illustrated, and the West Herts and Watford Observer both dated 9 October 1915 (including a Death announcement in the Observer) and 16 October 1915.
Unfortunately, Hubert’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
