Pre War

Son of George Charles and Priscilla Pyke (nee RAMM) MARSHALL.

His parents married 19 February 1895 in Tittleshall with Godwick, Norfolk.  George died 1922 in Watford aged 58, and was buried 6 March in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Priscilla died 1934 in Watford aged 73, and was buried 27 January, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Edward was born 1899 in Willesden, London.

On the 1901 Census, aged 2 he lived in Willesden, with his parents and two siblings.  On the 1911 Census, at school aged 12, he lived in Stonebridge [Park], London, with his parents and two siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford, and was formerly Private 157188 The Queen’s Regiment.

He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died a prisoner of war at Rumancourt.

Additional Information

There are articles about Edward in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 25 May 1918, 10 August 1918, and 7 December 1918, the latter also including a Death announcement; plus an In Memoriam in the issue dated 7 June 1919.

Recorded as Lance-Corporal only in the Borough Roll of Honour.

Unfortunately, Edward’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
