Son of Eliza JONES (formerly HUMPHREYS, nee PROSSER) of Paddington, London, and the late William Henry HUMPHREYS; husband of Florence (nee CROSS) HUMPHREYS of Kentish Town, London.
His parents married 30 July 1871 at Christ Church, Marylebone. William died 1890 in the Marylebone district aged 36. Eliza remarried 19 January 1891 at Christ Church, Marylebone, to Albert Charles JONES, and died 1928 in the Paddington district aged 73.
Alfred was born 20 January 1884 in Marylebone, and baptised 16 March 1884 at Christ Church, Marylebone. He married 15 December 1903 at St James the Apostle, Islington, London; they had five children.
On the 1891 Census, aged 7 he lived in Marylebone, with his mother, step-father and one sibling. On the 1901 Census [recorded as JONES], a fishmonger aged 17, he still lived in Marylebone, with his mother, step-father and two siblings. On the 1911 Census, a fish curer aged 27, he lived in Lisson Grove, London N.W., with his wife and three children.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Marylebone, London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 17 March 1915, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Alfred’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
