Son of Henry William and Frances Ellen (nee WARE) HOBBS.

His parents married 5 March 1882 at St Matthew’s, Oakley Square, St Pancras, London.  Frances died 1924 in Watford aged 64, and was buried 6 June in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Henry died 1939 in Watford aged 86, and was buried 12 January, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Alfred was born 1885 in Bowes Park, Middx, and baptised September 1885 at St Michael’s, Bowes Park. He resided in Uxbridge, Middx.

On the 1891 Census, aged 5 he lived in Bushey, Herts, with his parents and three siblings.  On the 1901 Census, a hairdresser and barber aged 15, he lived in Oxhey, Herts, with his parents and two siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a hairdresser aged 26, he lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Marylebone, London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 8 October 1914, and was killed in action.  

Additional Information

His brother Albert died 13 July 1917 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.
