Pre War

Son of George William and Mary Matilda (nee WARD) HARRIS of Watford.

His parents married 12 March 1893 at St Edmund’s, Northampton.  George died 1932 in Watford aged 60, and was buried 13 December in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Mary died 1938 in the Watford district aged 66.

Charles was born 28 April 1895 in Harpole, Northants, and attended first Callow Land Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School from 6 January 1902 to 7 April 1909.  He was admitted to the National Union of Railwaymen 27 June 1914, a labourer aged 19.

On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a milk carrier aged 16, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and five siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford, and was formerly Private TR/9/33908 T.R.  He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was presumed killed in action.

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
