Son of the late Edwin and Elizabeth (nee KNIGHT) FOWLER.
His parents married 17 August 1878 at St Mary’s, Edlesborough, Bucks. Edwin died 1917 in Watford aged 66, and was buried 25 July in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Elizabeth died 1918 in Watford aged 64, and was buried 26 November, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Hubert was born 1 May 1895 in Northall, Bucks, and attended Alexandra School, Watford, from 12 January 1903 to 19 February 1909. He was unmarried, died 1920 in the Watford district aged 24, and was buried 6 March in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Edlesborough, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, a stable boy aged 15, he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings.
Wartime Service
There is no trace of a FOWLER H G in either the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s dataset, nor in Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-1919.
According top the National Roll of Honour entry, he volunteered in August 1915 and after training was sent to the Western Front.
Wherem serving with the RASC did much important work in the forward areas and was often under shell fire. After falling ill in early 1918 he was returned home.
He was discharged 25 June 1918 as no longer physically fit for Service. and was awarded the Silver War Badge (414134) which was authorised on the 17 June 1918.
He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals.
