Son of the late William Richard and Ann Ellen/Ellen Ann (nee PIPER) FAIRHALL; husband of Harriet Lucy (formerly LEE, nee TUPPEN) FAIRHALL.

His parents married 3 September 1871 at St Nicholas’, Brighton, Sussex.  William died 1915 in the Brighton district aged 67; Ellen died 1917 in the Newhaven, Sussex, district aged 66.

Charles was born 1879 in Brighton, and married 1907 in the Steyning, Sussex, district; they had one child.  Harriet never remarried, and died 1932 in the Brighton district aged 63.

On the 1881 Census, aged 1 he lived in Brighton, with his parents and four siblings.  On the 1891 Census, a scholar aged 11, he still lived in Brighton, with his parents and seven siblings.  On the 1901 Census, a printer aged 21, he still lived in Brighton, with his parents and four siblings.  On the 1911 Census, a compositor aged 31, he still lived in Brighton, with his wife and one child.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died of sickness at Parcham whilst a Prisoner of War.  

Additional Information

His headstone inscription reads: "RELEASED FROM ALL SORROW FREE FROM ALL PAIN TRIUMPHANT FOR EVER WITH JESUS TO REIGN".

Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
