Son of Frederick and Amy Emma (nee CHALK) EAST.
His parents married 22 August 1891 at St Mary’s, Watford. Frederick died 1920 in Watford aged 53, and was buried 24 March in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Amy died 1949 in the Watford district aged 78.
George was born 1892 in Watford, and baptised 25 May 1892 at St Mary’s, Watford. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 9 he lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling. On the 1911 Census, a decorator aged 19, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Hertford; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 23 January 1915, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
There are articles about George in the Watford Illustrated , and the West Herts and Watford Observerboth dated 29 May 1915, as well as an In Memoriam of the issue dated 20 May 1916. Unfortunately, George’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
