Son of George Alfred and Ann(ie) Maria (nee GOODMAN) DUNKLEY of Watford, Warks.

His parents married 22 January 1889 at St Andrew’s, Whilton, Northants.  George died 30 March 1944 in Watford, Warks, aged 79, and was buried there in April; Ann died 14 January 1953 in Watford, Warks, aged 81.

William was born 7 December 1898 in Long Buckby, Northants, and baptised 21 May 1899 at St Andrew’s, Whilton.  He resided in Long Buckby.

On the 1901 Census, aged 2 he lived in Long Buckby, with his parents and six siblings.  On the 1911 Census, at school aged 12, he lived in Watford, Warks, with his parents and three siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Northampton, and was formerly Private 6800 Bedfordshire Regiment.  

He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and died 28 April 1918 of wounds received in action.  

Additional Information

Unfortunately, William’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.

His brother Walter died 5 April 1916 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.
