Pre War

Farquhar Donald Mackinnon was born to Farquhar Mackinnon (Planter) and Mary (nee Reid). There is record of him being born and baptised in Gorakpore Bengal India. This is disputed by some documents that insist he was born on the Isle of Skye (making him a true scotsman.)

He attended Aldenham School.

Wartime Service

He was gazetted in the Indian Army as 2nd lieutenant on 1 Jan 1916 and Lieutenant on 1 Jan 1917 possibly as IARO (Indian Army Reserve Officer) and 117 Mahrattas and was serving on attachment with 129 Baluchis when he died  at Matandawalla in German East Africa,  now Tanzania, on 4 Oct 1917.

Additional Information

His mother, Mrs. M. Mackinnon of Bubnowlie, Tomkohi, Gorakpore, India ordered his headstone inscription: "THY WILL BE DONE"
