Son of Henry and Rosa (nee WOOD) ALDERMAN of Watford.
His parents married 6 August 1894 at Christ Church, Derby. Henry died 1935 in Watford aged 62, and was buried 7 November in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Rosa died 1944 in Watford aged 71, and was buried 15 February, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Charles was born 1896 in Derby, and baptised 14 October 1898 at Christ Church, Coventry. He attended Hinksey National School, Oxford; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 7 January 1908 to 22 July 1910. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 4 he was a boarder in Oxford, with his father and no siblings. On the 1911 Census, an errand boy aged 14, he lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Hertford, and was formerly Private 4725 Hertfordshire Regiment.
He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 17 August 1915, and was killed in action at Bulgir Wood.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing. There is an article about and a Death announcement for Charles in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 6 April 1918. Has a entry in the National Roll of the Great War.
