St Albans Citizens Memorial, Town Hall (old) Memorial, St Albans, St Saviour's Church Memorial (Ext), St Albans (*1), St Saviour's Church Memorial (Int), St Albans (*1),
Pre War
*1 On the St Albans memorials there are several variations of the name A Izzard, i.e. ‘A Izzard’ appears on the Citizen’s memorial and the St Saviours memorials, ‘A A Izzard’/’Arthur Albert Izzard’ appears on the Citizen’s memorial and Town hall Memorial as does ‘A W Izzard’/’Alfred William Izzard’. By comparing database records and service numbers and assuming the initials recorded to be right we believe this man’s details are correct, however it should be recognised there is still some scope for confusion particularly in respect of the St Saviours memorials, which could commemorate any of the three men.
Husband of Mrs. E. Izzard, of 111, Park Corner, St. Albans - address recorded after his death.
The Soldiers Died In The Great War database records that he was born in St Albans, Herts. and was living there when he enlisted in Bedford.
Wartime Service
London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) transferred to (63122) 106th Coy. Labour Corps.
Killed in action and the Herts Mercury reported that he died as a result of a bomb dropped from an aeroplane.
Additional Information
*2 Probably more correctly (County [or City] of London) Bn., London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers).
The CWGC follows standard procedure and records him against gis original service number, i.t. before he was transferred to the Labour Corps.
