Biography
Frank Martindale was born at Willesden Green in 1900, and baptised at Abbots Langley on 3rd June that same year. He was one of two sons born to Arthur and Alice Martindale. Arthur worked as a Builder’s Labourer, and at the time of the 1901 Census the family lived at Leavesden. By 1911 they had moved to Bedmond, where Arthur had been born.
Arthur was recorded serving with the Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment in January 1917, and was probably conscripted, being 47 years old at the time. Frank was first recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in January 1918 serving with the Royal Navy, and continued to be recorded as such for the remainder of the War.
Frank Martindale survived the War, as did his father, Arthur, and his uncle Homer Martindale. However his cousin George Martindale died of wounds in France in April 1917.
