Biography

Henry Hyde was first recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in September 1916. He was recorded serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA) with the rank Lieutenant. His Medal Roll noted that he went to France on 31st July 1916, and sometime later in 1917 he was promoted to the rank of Captain.

Henry was recorded in the Roll of Honour throughout the War, and then appeared in the Absent Voter Records for Autumn 1918, Spring 1919 and Autumn 1919, where his place of residence was given at Abbots Road, Abbots Langley. He continued to be listed in the ongoing Absent Voter lists which presumed that he continued in service.

Henry’s Medal Roll indicated that when he requested his War Service medals on 17th February 1921 he did so from “The Officer’s Mess, Dover Castle”, which confirmed that he continued military service after the War.

It has not been possible to identify Henry in the Census Records, however he survived the War.
