Biography
William Evans was recorded in the 1911 Census working as a Coachman, and living in Adrian Road, Abbots Langley. He was born on 11th September 1877 at Bushey, and had married Alice May Evans in 1901. The couple had two children – a daughter, Doris May, and a son William (junior). In 1911 Kenneth Douglas, a surgeon from Bridgend in South Wales was boarding with the family.
The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour first listed William Evans in July 1916,and indicated that he was serving but it didn’t record which unit he had joined. In August 1916 the Roll of Honour listed William serving with the Motor Transport Army Service Corps (MTASC), and continued to record him serving with this unit throughout the remainder of the War.
William was recorded in the Absent Voter Lists for Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919, serving with the No 49 Divisional MTASC, and his address was given at Abbots Road, Abbots Langley.
William Evans survived the War.
