Biography
Walter Bryant emigrated to New Zealand at some point before the Great War, and returned to serve with the New Zealand Contingent. He was recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour from July 1916, and in May 1917 was reported sick/wounded. In January 1918 he was more specifically recorded serving with the New Zealand Royal Field Artillery, and may have been serving with that unit from earlier in 1917.
At some point in 1918 he was Discharged Disabled, and was recorded as such in the final Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in the December 1918.
Walter was one of three sons, born to George and Sarah Bryant of “Hudscus Cottages”, Porridge Hill, Bedmond.
Walter’s brothers also survived the War. George served from September 1914 throughout the War and was taken prisoner in the Spring of 1918, whilst Percy Bryant joined up in mid 1918, when he attained the age of 18.
