Biography

Percy Weston was born in the winter of 1888 at Watford. He was one of ten children (six sons and four daughters) born to Alfred and Elizabeth Weston. Percy’s brother Harry also served in the Great War.

At the time of the 1901 Census the family lived at 1 Cardiff Street, Watford. Alfred Weston worked as a General Labourer. Alfred was not included in the 1911 Census and is presumed to have died as Elizabeth was listed as the Head of Household. In 1911 Percy worked as a Florist.

Percy was first recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in October 1914, however his service unit was not noted. In the Magazine published in December 1914 he was listed serving with the 2nd Battalion of the Bedfordshire Battalion, and by the next month had moved to the 2nd Hertfordshire Royal Field Artillery (RFA). Percy was recorded serving with this unit throughout the War.

It is not known how Percy was associated with Abbots Langley, however at the end of the War his brother Harry gave his address at Bedmond in the Absent Voter Records, and hence the family may have moved to that village between 1911 and 1918.

Percy survived the War as did his brother Harry.
