Biography
William Volker was associated with Abbots Langley through marriage. On 1st January 1919, aged 29, he married Ethel Botwright of Abbots Langley at St Lawrence Church in the village.
William Volker served with the New Zealand Contingent, and it is not known whether or not the couple returned to New Zealand after the War.
Ethel Botwright was born at Abbots Langley in 1896. She was one of five children in the family of James and Elizabeth Botwright. At the time of the 1901 Census the family lived at Bedmond, where James was listed as a Farmer’s Son, in the Census Record. Ethel’s brother Walter Botwright, and step-brother Thomas Ford both served in the War.
William Volker survived the War, as did his brothers in law Walter and Thomas.
