Biography

Joseph Turnbull was listed in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour as J. Turnball, but in the Abbots Langley Section of the Absent Voter Records for Autumn 1918, Spring 1919 and Autumn 1918 he was recorded on each occasion as Joseph Turnbull, and with that name in his Medal Roll. These records qualify Joseph as an Abbots Langley man, however no further information has been identified about his family life within the area.

The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour first recorded Joseph serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) in November 1917. Many men from the Asylum at Leavesden joined the RAMC where they could utilise their nursing skills. Also many men employed at the Asylum came from other areas of the country, and had no other local associations or family in the area. Hence Joseph may have come from afar to work at the Asylum and joined up with the RAMC from there.

Joseph was recorded serving with the RAMC in the Roll of Honour, each month through to the end of the War. He was then listed in the Absent Voter Records for Autumn 1918, Spring 1919,and Autumn 1919 serving with the RAMC, and gave his address at 46 Marlin Square, Abbots Langley.

Joseph Turnbull survived the War.
