Biography

Henry Stanbrook was born in 1885 at St Albans. He was named Charles Henry, but known as Henry Charles in the Parish Records, and Charles Henry in the Census and Absent Voter Records. In the 1901 Census Henry was recorded living with his uncle and aunt, James and Kate Knight, at 182 Fishpool Street, St Albans, where James worked as an Auctioneer’s Clerk. At this time Henry was employed in a Shoe Factory. The family still lived at the same address at the time of the 1911 Census, however Henry then worked as a Painter.

Henry was first recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in August 1916, serving with the Army Service Corps (ASC). He continued to serve with the ASC through to 1918, however at some point in that year he transferred to the Labour Corps and served with a Labour Company. In the December 1918 Roll of Honour he was recorded serving with a Labour Company.

Henry was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Autumn 1918 and September 1919, serving with the 390th Home Service Labour Company, and his address is noted at Bedmond.

Henry Stanbrook survived the War.
