Biography
David Sadler was born on 8th February 1900 at Hoddesdon. He was one of five children (three sons and a daughter) born to William and Ada Sadler. At the time of the 1911 Census the family lived at 41 Hampstead Lane, Highgate in London. William was employed as the Manager of the Eastern Export Department of Messrs Mirror, Adamson and Gilfillan.
David was first recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in September 1918, serving with the Royal Air Force (RAF). At some point before 1915 the family moved to Abbots Langley and lived at “Abbotsford” in Abbots Road. More recently the house has been replaced by new properties between 115A and 117 Abbots Road.
He served with the RAF through to the end of hostilities, and survived the War. His brother William was killed in action at Hill 60 near Ypres in April 1915, however his cousins, who also lived at Abbots Road, Kendal, Geoffrey and John all survived the War.
