Biography

Charles Rogers was born in the autumn of 1875 at Devizes. The 1901 and 1911 Census Records listed him as Charles Rogers however the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour recorded him as Charles James.

Charles was listed in the 1901 and 1911 Census living at 2 Asylum Terrace, Abbots Langley. In 1901 he was employed as a Cook at the Leavesden Asylum, and in 1911 as an Asylum Attendant. He had married in 1899 and by 1911 three daughters had been born, and a Boarder, Georgina Davis, a Nurse at the Asylum also lived with the family.

Charles was listed in the Asylum Roll of Honour which was published in the Hertfordshire Advertiser on 17th October 1914. The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour first recorded Charles in November 1914, serving with the Royal Army Military Corps (RAMC).

He served with the RAMC throughout the War, and was awarded the Military Medal. Charles was listed in the Absent Voters Records in Autumn 1918 serving as a Corporal with 7th Field Ambulance (RAMC), and his address was given at Asylum road, Abbots Langley.

Charles Rogers survived the War.
