Biography

Montague Pratt was born in the autumn of 1895 at Abbots Langley. He was one of six children (three sons and three daughters) born to Robert and Kate Pratt. Robert was employed as an Engine Fitter at the Asylum, and at the time of the 1901 and 1911 Census the family lived at 25 Marlin Square, Abbots Langley. By 1911 Montague was employed as a Clerk.

Montague was recorded for the first time in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour, serving with the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC). At some point in 1918 he was transferred to the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry.

The Parish Magazine recorded that Montague’s brother, Reginald, was buried at Abbots Langley on 29th October 1918, aged 15.

The Absent Voter Record of Autumn 1918 listed Montague serving with the 3rd Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment. The September 1919 Absent Voter Record noted that he was serving with the 1st Battalion of the King’s Yorkshire Light Infantry. In both records his home address was given at Pope’s Road, Abbots Langley.

Montague Pratt survived the War.
