Biography

Harry Parr was born in 1894 at Abbots Langley. He was one of three sons born to Thomas and Emily Parr. At the time of the 1901 Census the family lived at Troley Bottom. Thomas was employed as a Labourer at a Paper Mill. By the time of the 1911 Census Thomas and Emily had moved to 111 Breakspeare Road, but all three sons had moved away.

Harry was recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour for the first time in December 1914, serving with the Army Service Corps (ASC). Sometime in 1916 he transferred to the Motor Transport Section of the ASC, and was recorded wounded in the July 1917 Parish Magazine. He recovered and in the January 1918 Parish Roll of Honour was recorded serving with the Royal Irish Fusiliers. As the War progressed and the losses at the front took its toll men were transferred from non-combatant roles, such as the ASC, to serve in front line units, and this may have been the case for Harry Parr.

In the Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919 Absent Voter records Harry was listed serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers, giving an address as 111 Breakspeare Road, Abbots Langley.

Harry Parr survived the War.
