Biography
Charles Mallard was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley in Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919. He was initially identified from the Absent Voter Records and was not recorded elsewhere in the Abbots Langley Parish records. In the Absent Voter Records Charles was listed serving as a Private with an Agricultural Company of the Labour Corps and his address was given at 69 Breakspeare Road, Abbots Langley.
From his Medal Roll it was identified that initially Charles had served as a Driver with the Army Service Corps. He was sent to France on 16th July 1915 and it is not known if he was wounded and was subsequently posted to the Labour Corps, or was just transferred to that unit towards the end of the War for some other reason.
Further information about Charles was found from the Christening Records for two of his children. Charles and his wife Ann Elizabeth were listed on the Christening Record for George Thomas Mallard on 1st October 1905, and for Lily Mallard on 6th October 1907. In both cases the Christenings took place at Abbots Langley.
Charles Mallard survived the War.
