Biography

William Hill was born on 13th April 1887 at Leverstock Green. He was one of five children (two sons and three daughters) born to James and Jane Hill. James Hill worked as an Agricultural Labourer at the time of the 1891 Census, but died before the next Census in 1901, when Jane Hill was noted as the Head of Household. The family lived near to The Swan Public House at Pimlico, near Bedmond. In 1901 fourteen year old William was listed as a “Boy on a Farm”.

The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour first recorded William in December 1916, serving with the Royal Field Artillery (RFA). He was recorded with the RFA throughout the War. William was recorded in the Absent Voter Records of Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919 serving with the 35th Anti-Aircraft Company of the RFA, and his address was given at Bedmond.

William Hill survived the War.
