Biography
Douglas Innet-Ward was born in on 16th February 1872 at Islington. He was one of four children (one son and three daughters) born to John and Charlotte Innet-Ward. At the time of the 1881 Census the family lived at Hampstead, but had moved to Eastbourne when the 1901 Census was recorded.
The 1911 Census revealed that the Innet-Ward family had moved to Abbots Langley, and lived at the Manor House in the village, accompanied by six servants. John Innet-Ward was a successful Stock and Share Broker, and Douglas had followed his father, and was also employed as a Stock and Share Broker.
Outgoing Passenger Records at the National Archives revealed that on 8th January 1914 Douglas embarked on the SS “Suffolk” at London and sailed as a cabin passenger to Auckland in New Zealand.
The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour first recorded Douglas Innet-Ward in April 1916, serving with the New Zealand Contingent. He continued to serve with the New Zealand Forces throughout 1917 until in April 1918 the Parish Magazine reported that Douglas had been Discharged Wounded.
Douglas Innet-Ward survived the War.
