Biography
Harry Hamlin was born in Halifax Nova Scotia in 1880. It is not known when he arrived in England, but Harry was recorded in the 1901 Census living as a Boarder with James and Elizabeth Buckoke in Adrian Road, Abbots Langley. James Buckoke worked as an Upholsterer, and may have taught Harry his trade, as in the 1911 Census Harry’s occupation was recorded as a Dressmaker/Upholsterer.
Harry had married in the autumn of 1902 at Hemel Hempstead, and in 1911 he lived with his wife Edith Millicent in Breakspeare Road. Edith worked as a Dressmaker too. Harry was listed in the 1912 Kelly’s Directory as an Upholsterer working in Abbots Langley.
The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour first listed Harry in November 1915, serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC). He was recorded in the Roll of Honour serving with the RAMC through to the end of the War.
Harry Hamlin survived the War.
