Biography
William Howell was born in 1893 at Westminster. He was the only child of William (senior) and Eliza Howell. At the time of the 1901 and 1911 Census the family lived at 6 Marlin Square, Abbots Langley. William (senior) worked as an Industrial Shoe Maker, and may have been employed at the Leavesden Asylum. In 1911 William (junior) worked as a Chauffeur.
The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour recorded William (junior) for the first time in November 1914, serving with the Scotch (sic) Fusiliers, and the next month indicated that he had transferred to the 7th Royal Scottish Fusiliers. His Medal Roll indicated that he was sent to France on 10th July 1915.
The July 1916 Parish Magazine recorded that William had been wounded, and the Hertfordshire Advertiser also reported this on 8th July 1916. William recovered and remained with the Royal Scots Fusiliers through to the end of the War,
He was also recorded in the Autumn 1918 Absent Voter Records, where he was listed as William John Hartnell Howelll, serving with the Ayrshire Yeomanry, and living at 6 Marlin Square, Abbots Langley.
William Howell survived the War.
