Biography

Percy Hedges was born in 1893 at Abbots Langley, one of two children born to George J.H and Mary Hedges. In the 1901 Census the family was recorded living at the High Street in Abbots Langley, where George worked as a Farm Labourer. By 1911 the family had moved to Trowley Bottom, and Percy worked as a Carpenter.

The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour recorded Percy for the first time in May 1916 serving with the 11th Gloucester’s. Sometime in 1917 he transferred to the 7th Gloucester’s and was recorded with this unit through to the end of the War.

The Absent Voter Records of Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919 recorded Percy still serving with the 7th Gloucester’s and his address was given at Asylum Road, Abbots Langley. However the Autumn 1919 Absent Voter Record indicated that Percy had transferred to 2/3rd Battalion of the City of London Yeomanry, and was living at Primrose Hill, Abbots Langley.

Percy Hedges survived the War, as did his uncles Frank and Herbert Hedges.
