Biography

Edward Hart was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley in Autumn 1918, Spring 1919 and Autumn 1919. He was initially identified from the Absent Voter Records and was not recorded elsewhere in the Abbots Langley Parish records. In the Absent Voter Records Edward was listed serving as a Private with the 2/3rd Battalion of the County of London Yeomanry. Although the first line unit of the 3rd battalion served at Gallipoli, Macedonia, Egypt, Palestine and on the Western Front, the second line, in which Edward served, did not leave the United Kingdom. In the Absent Voter Records Edward’s address was listed at Primrose Hill, Abbots Langley.

Edward was born in January 1894 at Abbots Langley and was baptised at the Parish Church on 4th February He was one of seven children born to George and Emma Hart. In the 1891 Census the Hart family lived at Railway Terrace, Abbots Langley, but by 1901 they lived at the Keeper’s Lodge at Longwood, Abbots Langley. George worked as a Horseman on a Farm. Long Wood ran from near Kings Langley Station to near to Parsonage Farm close to the Bedmond Road at Abbots Langley. In the 1911 Census the family had moved to Alexandra Road, Kings Langley. George continued to work as a Horseman on a Farm and Edward worked at the local Paper Mills.

It is not known when Edward enlisted however the National Births, Deaths and Marriages records show that he married Sarah Price at Abbots Langley on 9th October 1917.

Edward Hart survived the War.
