Biography

George Glenister was born at Abbots Langley in the winter of 1881, one of fourteen children born to Thomas Edwin and Mary Glenister. In the 1891 Census Thomas was listed working as a Shepherd, and the family lived at Troley Bottom, Abbots Langley.

In the autumn of 1908 George married and in the 1911 Census was listed living at 142 Sandringham Road, Watford, with his wife, Helen, and one year old son, Alfred. He worked as an Attendant at the Leavesden Asylum.

The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour first listed George in December 1915, serving with the Army Service Corps (ASC). He continued to be recorded with the ASC for the remainder of the War, and in the Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919 Absent Voter Records was listed with the 734th Labour Corps, and his address was given at 26 Marlin Square, Abbots Langley.

George Glenister survived the War, as did his nephews Clement and Francis.
