Biography
Edward Gomme was born in the autumn of 1893 at Abbots Langley. In the 1901 Census he was recorded living with his grandparents, Abel and Elizabeth Gomme, and his cousin, at Adrian Road in Abbots Langley. Abel worked as a Carpenter. By the time of the 1911 Census Edward was recorded living at 9 Adrian Road, and was working as a Groom. His cousin, John Gomme, had married and was living at 42 Marlin Square.
Edward was first recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in January 1915, serving with the Army Service Corps (ASC) Remount Depot. As a Groom he would have been skilled at working with horses. His Medal Roll indicated that he arrived in France on 3rd April 1915.
The Abbots Langley Roll of Honour recorded that in 1917 he transferred to the 16th Lancers, and later in 1918 transferred to the 12th Royal Lancers.
In the Autumn 1918 Absent Voters Records Edward was recorded still serving with the 12th Royal Lancers, and his address was given at 9 Adrian Road, Abbots Langley.
Edward Gomme survived the War, as did his cousin John.
